About Me...

I began my graduate training in clinical psychology in 1993 at the Graduate Faculty at the New School for Social Research in New York City.  As is so often the case, my path to psychology was not direct, but a result of multiple explorations and discoveries about the world and about my self.  Since completing my Doctorate in 2002, I have been honing my clinical skills and developed a style of practice that is grounded in a number of theoretical approaches.  I integrate cognitive-behavioral (CBT) and solution-focused techniques with more psycho-dynamic and relational approaches.  I also incorporate a holistic mind-body understanding to treatment of psychological suffering, with attention to mindfulness and affect regulation as well as attention to physical symptoms.  I have found that this way of working is highly effective and it allows me to better address the specific needs and internal dynamics of each client I work with.

I have well over twenty years of practical clinical experience that includes work in hospital psychiatric emergency rooms, in-patient units, out-patient clinics, and private practice.  Along the way I have seen, diagnosed, evaluated, and treated people of every walk of life with symptoms ranging from very mild to acutely severe.  The breadth of my experience is a grounding and stabilizing force in my work as it gives me invaluable insight into, and understanding of, the variability of symptoms and human suffering.

In my private practice I treat a variety of psychological problems including, but not limited to, depression, stress and anxiety, and trauma, as well as work-related, phase of life, relationship, marital, and family issues, including sexual and gender-identity concerns.  I see adults and adolescents, individuals, couples, and families, and run groups on a limited basis.  I can also provide consultations for the purpose of diagnosis and referrals to other clinicians, including for psychiatric medication treatment.
